In 2018 Congress began investigating China and Russia’s use of domestic non-profits, Center for Biological Diversity, EarthJustice, et al, as front groups to influence American public policy. In a letter addressed to the Center for Biological Diversity, the Committee on Natural Resources wrote “The Committee on Natural Resources is continuing its oversight of the potential manipulation of 501 (c) organizations by foreign entities to influence U.S. environmental and natural resource policy…”

China’s attempts over the last six months to spy on America from the sky, buy up critical farm land, and control our food supply have been exposed. China’s attempts and successes in infiltrating America are much greater than anyone expected. This is partly detailed in Bloomberg’s article "Russia and China Have a Stranglehold on the World’s Food Security".

In light of these developments, the Committee on Natural Resources investigation has proven to be a prudent action in protecting America and must be renewed and expanded in this new Congress.

Mainstream Americans deserve to know the depth of China’s activities in shaping environmental policy in the United States.

Common sense Americans are deeply concerned about our national security and our relationships with China. Recent polling from Morning Consult indicates that over 60% of Americans view China unfavorably and even possibly as an enemy.

Our politicians seem not to get it and it is our responsibility to educate Americans and our leaders on the real threats our country faces from this quiet adversary. While we have long recognized China as an important valued trading partner, recent actions by the Chinese government have raised concerns about the potential threats they pose to our national security.

China's campaign of the silent war is evident through their recent actions, such as sending surveillance balloons over the Continental United States, purchasing large swaths of land, imposing fertilizer export restrictions, stealing intellectual property, increasing lobbying efforts, and Congress investigating several environmental nonprofit organizations, such as the Center for Biological Diversity, for aiding China in curtailing United States national security policy. These actions are a clear indication that China is looking to exert its influence and control over the United States.

For decades, China’s imperialism has spread throughout Africa and the Middle East. They have indebted foreign governments and peddled influence to gain economic control over weaker nations.

Today, their focus has shifted to the United States and in areas no one would ever suspect - like our food supply; a critical asset vital to our national security.

It is imperative we have an honest discussion about China, establish realistic expectations about their goals, and implement common sense policies that protect our national interests. By doing so, we can foster a transparent trading partnership with China. China is not interested in a military engagement against the United States. Their threats to our national security are broader than that and focused instead on the American economy. They have focused strategic assets on purchasing land, cornering the market on critical minerals, and implemented trade restrictions in order to place their thumb on our economic vitality. One area of particular concern is our food supply which is critical to the health and well-being of our citizens, as well as to the stability of our economy.

By taking a proactive, strategic and common sense approach, we can ensure that our food supply remains secure and that our citizens remain safe and prosperous.

In the weeks and months ahead, we will explore these issues in detail and provide insights into the steps that the United States can take to ensure our food supply chain is secure. We will delve into the nuances of China's actions and how they impact our national security. We will also explore the potential consequences of not addressing this issue and the implications it could have on the United States' economy and overall security.

For too long the extremes on both sides of the political spectrum have remained silent on China or taken to their various corners - prioritizing their own interests above the interests of mainstream Americans who view China unfavorably and as a potential enemy.
