Environmental Extremists Are Blocking America’s Energy Future — Again
Radical environmental groups are at it again and trying to block American energy independence. Their latest target? Calcasieu Pass 2 (CP2), one of the largest liquefied natural gas (LNG) facilities in the United States.
CP2 isn’t just a construction project. It’s a strategic asset.
When complete, it will export 20 million metric tons of LNG each year, starting in 2027. That means thousands of good-paying jobs, lower energy costs, and the ability to help our allies in Europe and Asia cut their reliance on hostile regimes like Russia and Iran.
But instead of celebrating this progress, groups like the Sierra Club, Louisiana Bucket Brigade, and the Environmental Integrity Project are suing to stop it. Their excuse? A flimsy attack on a Clean Air Act permit issued by Louisiana regulators.
Let’s be clear. This isn’t about clean air.
It’s about crippling the infrastructure that powers American prosperity and security.
The Truth About CP2
The so-called “pollution” claims rest on old complaints about the original Calcasieu Pass site; not CP2. In fact, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) has already reviewed CP2 and found “no significant cumulative air quality impacts.”
And here’s the kicker: LNG from CP2 doesn’t just keep provide an energy source, it reduces global emissions by displacing coal in world energy markets. That’s the part environmental extremists always leave out.
The Cost of Obstruction
Every delay, every frivolous lawsuit comes with a price:
- Higher energy prices for American families
- Lost jobs in Louisiana and across the Gulf Coast
- Weakened national security as our allies scramble for reliable energy
We’ve seen this pattern before…blocking Keystone XL, opposing drilling permits, undermining nuclear and hydropower projects.
The result? A less secure, less prosperous America.
Foreign Influence in the Shadows
Even worse, many of these extremist environmental groups get support from entities linked to foreign adversaries like China. Reports show millions funneled into U.S. climate initiatives designed to weaken American energy dominance while Beijing builds coal plants at record speed.
It’s no accident. This is ideological sabotage, and it plays straight into the hands of our competitors.
Common Sense Must Prevail
America should be leading the world in clean, reliable energy exports. CP2 is how we do it; by producing LNG cleaner than anywhere else on Earth and delivering it to our allies.
The only thing standing in the way? Radical activists more interested in control than security, more loyal to ideology than to American families.
It’s time to stop letting fringe lawsuits dictate our energy future.
It’s time to build CP2 and build American strength along with it.
